Some Bioethical Issues...
- Proponents
of stem cell research point out that there is currently an abundant excess
of embryos originally created for in vitro fertilization purposes that are
no longer needed.
- These
embryos will be destroyed whether or not they are used for stem cell research,
and it would be wrong not to use the embryos in a manner that might greatly
alleviate human suffering.
- A similar
argumentation is used regarding the use of fetal tissues. The fetuses were
not aborted for the sake of creating stem cells.
