Web Design
Although I do not make a living as a web designer, sometimes I do build websites. Actually, there are quite a few - you can see them in the portfolio section. I currently use and recommend a couple of free open source tools that will make your life much easier once you master them (which may take some time...)
ModX CMS - PHP Application Framework. Ajax Content Managemet System. This is a wonderful tool to build and maintain your website!
BlueOnyx - Easy to use multi-site php/mysql web hosting and email platform. Download the .iso and burn it on a disc. Get an old PC and use the disc to install BlueOnyx. You will get a CentOS hosting machine in no time!
The GIMP - GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
GIMPshop - GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP.
